National vacancy rates in the fourth quarter 2017 were 6.9 percent for rental housing and 1.6 percent for homeowner housing. The rental vacancy rate of 6.9 percent was virtually unchanged from the rate in the fourth quarter

2016 (6.9 percent) and 0.6 percentage points lower than the rate in the third  quarter 2017 (7.5 percent). The homeowner vacancy rate of 1.6 percent was 0.2 percentage points lower than the rate in the fourth quarter 2016

(1.8 percent) and virtually unchanged from the rate in the third quarter 2017 (1.6 percent). 

The homeownership rate of 64.2 percent was not statistically different from the rates in the fourth quarter 2016 (63.7 percent) or the third quarter 2017 (63.9 percent).

2017 Ends on a high Note with Home Prices Rising in Rhode Island

Warwick, RI, January 31, 2018 – The median price of Rhode Island single-family homes sales was $255,000 in December, an 8 percent increase from 12 months earlier according to statistics recently released by the Rhode Island Association of Realtors. Sales activity stayed relatively stable, falling less than one percent. There were 918 single-family home sales sold in the Ocean State last December compared to 927 in December of 2016.

2017 Year End Stats

Realtors Report New Record in Rhode Island Home Sales in 2017 

Warwick, RI – January 18, 2018 – Rhode Island’s housing market continued to gain strength in 2017 according to the latest report from the Rhode Island Association of Realtors and its subsidiary, State-Wide Multiple Listing Service. For the fifth consecutive year, the number of single-family homes sold rose year-over-year, eclipsing previous records. The data reveals that 11,282 single-family homes were sold in the Ocean State last year, up from 11,066 in 2016. The median price of those sales climbed 6.3 percent to $255,000.
